About Mel:

Mel Edwards has been a technician, educator and Technical Director for 10 years and counting and is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin with a BA in Theatre and Dance, Scenic Technology. 

She has worked as a scenic carpenter and cabinet/furniture maker before entering education. During the pandemic she co-created MAB Technical Theatre, which provides online technical theatre curriculum for both virtual and in-person instruction. 

Every summer Mel loves working as the Production Technical Director for Tal’s Theatre Summer Camp, an intense 2-week camp hosted at Baylor University.

She currently designs scenery for local community theaters and high school productions, contract work at universities and teaches workshops at various conventions throughout the year for theatre educators. 

She has a new podcast called Behind the Plaster line which features technical theatre topics, digital courses and resources for theatre community members looking to learn more about technical theatre. 

While she prides herself on being a Maker and is able to create almost anything, her main hustle and passion is her online shop, Mighty With All Trades, which celebrates the technicians who make theatre happen by representing their trades with love and pride.
